Education & Formative Career
Ryan grew up in Yakima, Washington. After graduating from Eisenhower High School, he attended the University of Washington. Ryan graduated in 2004 with a BA in philosophy and moved to Japan, where he taught English for two years before returning to Washington to attend Gonzaga Law School. During his time at Gonzaga, Ryan worked at the law school's legal clinic, assisting local entrepreneurs in starting their businesses. In his third year, Ryan interned as a Rule 9 limited practice attorney at the firm of Salina, Sanger & Gauper, working on family and property law issues.
While in law school, Ryan was also active in moot court. He was a member of the Moot Court Honors Council, and competed in the Albert R. Mugel National Tax Moot Court Competition, which he won both first place overall and the award for best brief. Ryan also participated in the Linden Cup Appellate Advocacy Competition, ultimately winning that competition based on his final oral argument presented to Justices of the Washington and Idaho Supreme Courts.
Professional Life & Associations
After graduating from Gonzaga Law School, Ryan returned to the University of Washington, graduating with an LLM in tax law in 2011. Ryan then worked for the Washington Department of Revenue before joining his family in Walla Walla and taking a position at Reese, Baffney, Frol & Grossman.
Ryan joined Hess Law Office, PLLC in 2014 as an associate attorney. When he's not helping our clients get the best possible results, Ryan also enjoys gardening and traveling.
